Nauru not affected by
recent avian influenza outbreak in Victoria,
Australia
The
Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness has confirmed the
presence of highly pathogenic avian influenza (H7N3) on a
commercial egg laying farm in southwest Victoria, near Geelong. A
second Victorian poultry farm in the Terang region has also been
confirmed to have avian influenza. The affected properties have
been placed under quarantine.
Nauru is
not affected by this H7N3 avian influenza as advised by the
Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry
(DAFF).
Nauru is
not in danger of this outbreak. Our current frozen chicken supply
and eggs are safe. The Government and Ministry of Health will keep
the public informed.
Pacific
nations affected by this outbreak are French Polynesia, Kiribati,
New Caledonia, New Zealand, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon
Islands, and Vanuatu.
Certification is temporarily suspended for all Australian
products to affected countries and will be updated as changes
occur.
The
Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry has
reviewed all health certification for poultry meat and meat
products, eggs, egg products and inedible products and placed a
temporary suspension on certification for affected products
effective from today, Friday 24 May 2024.
Australian exporters are advised to note that product
recently exported on affected health certificates that have not
arrived at the port of entry and cleared customs are at commercial
risk. Exporters should work with their importer to ensure importing
country requirements continue to be met to manage commercial
risk.
The Nauru
Government and the Ministry of Health are working closely with
importers and the Australian Government to ensure the safety of
imported poultry goods to Nauru.
