Minister Aliklik report to
parliament on China state visit
Minister Reagan Alliklik reported
to parliament in April of his trip to China accompanying President
David Adeang on his state visit, an experience he said was
invaluable and was humbled by the opportunity to be part of the
delegation.
On behalf of the government,
Minister Aliklik co-signed three memorandums of understanding (MOU)
during the state visit.
The first was the financial
cooperation between the Department of Finance and the Bank of
China.
Minister Alikilik says this MOU
aims to promote friendship and economic and trade ties and
strengthen financial cooperation between Chine and Nauru.
"Bank of China will assist Nauruan
enterprises in finding business partners, and provide training for
government officials in the fields of finance and economics."
Minister Aliklik also signed the
MOU on Deepening Blue Economy Cooperation between the Ministry of
Commerce of China and Nauru's Department of Foreign Affairs,
focusing on businesses from both parties to conduct investment
cooperation in the fields including but not limited to mariculture,
distant water fishing, seafood processing, marine
bio-pharmaceuticals, marine engineering technology, seawater
desalination, marine salt industry, port wharves, submarine optical
cable construction, shipbuilding and ship repair, shipping
services, marine tourism and leisure services, photovoltaic power,
wind power, clean energy and exploration and development offshore
oil, gas, and mineral resources.
The last of the three MOUs signed
by the minister was the Exchange and Cooperation in the Field of
Economic Development between the National Development and Reform of
China and Nauru's Department of Chief Secretary.
This MOU focuses on policies and
experiences n macro economy, the Belt and Road Initiative, trade
and investment, sustainable development, clean energy, digital
economy, and people-to-people exchange.
Minister Aliklik said cooperation
will be carried out in the form of capacity building exchange
programs and seminars with funding arrangements to be negotiated.
The focal point and implementing agency is the Office of the Chief
Secretary.
