President receives South Korean
Ambassador Kim
His Excellency President David
Adeang received the credentials of South Korea's non-resident
Ambassador to Nauru, 15 April.
Jin-Hyung Kim is the new Ambassador
of the Republic of South Korea to the Republic of Nauru, succeeding
Mr Young-kyu Park.
Following his arrival to the
government office, Ambassador Hyung inspected the Nauru Police
Force Guard of Honour, and then was escorted to the Office of the
President to present his credentials.
"The bond between Nauru and Korea
is built upon a foundation of mutual respect and cooperation,
guided by shared principles." President Adeang said.
"We renew our commitment to
enhancing the bond between our nations. The role of diplomatic
engagement promoting a deepened mutual cooperation and concerted
endeavours among our countries is paramount."
President Adeang also acknowledged
Korea's strong support for Pacific island states like Nauru in
mitigating the adverse effects of climate change.
"Korea's support for adaptation and
mitigation strategies is imperative for the survival and resilience
of Nauru and other Pacific island nations. Let's recommit ourselves
to the principles of peace and development, mutual respect and
friendship."
Ambassador Hyung served in the
Korean Navy and was appointed to various positions, including Naval
Attaché in the Korean Embassy in Washington D.C. and as Commander
in South Korea's 1st Fleet Command.
Ambassador Hyung also has a
Doctorate in Engineering, IT Policy and Management from Soongsil
University in Seoul.
Nauru established diplomatic
relations with the Republic of Korea on 20 August 1979.
